CONCLUSIONS: The children's module in BS showed excellent discriminating power and generally acceptable accuracy in more than four-year-old children. This may lose accuracy in higher quartiles among less than three years old children.

CONCLUSIONS: This study did not establish the efficacy of sarilumab in hospitalized patients with severe/critical COVID-19. Post-hoc analyses were consistent with other studies that found a benefit of sarilumab in patients receiving corticosteroids.

CONCLUSIONS: The significant heterogeneity in the available evidence and absence of consensus reporting standards are important considerations and concern when interpreting the data. Evaluation of the evidence suggests that TEVAR for CTBAD is a safe procedure with low rates of complications. However, the optimal treatment strategy for CTBAD remains debatable and requires further research. Evidence from high-quality registries and clinical trials are required to address these challenges.

AbstractWe present a wireless, fully implantable device for electrical stimulation of peripheral nerves consisting of a powering coil, a tuning network, a Zener diode, selectable stimulation parameters, and a stimulator IC, all encapsulated in biocompatible silicone. A wireless RF signal at 13.56 MHz powers the implant through the on-chip rectifier. The ASIC, designed in TSMCs 180 nm MS RF G process, occupies an area of less than 1.2 mm2. The IC enables externally selectable current-controlled...

CONCLUSION: Eventual spontaneous voiding was achieved till toilet training in 90% patients following preventive untethering. Those showing preoperative vesicourethral synergy was associated with faster achievement of spontaneous voiding and better urinary continence when they enter elementary school.

CONCLUSIONS: De-escalation occurred frequently in patients with AMI and was associated with both non-clinical and clinical factors. Medical decision making was poorly documented and represent an area for improvement.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to develop and establish concurrent validity of a clinically relevant definition of poor cognitive outcome 1 year after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), to compare baseline characteristics across cognitive outcome groups, and to determine whether poor 1-year cognitive outcome can be predicted by routinely available baseline clinical variables.

CONCLUSION: In a large cohort of patients with IAs detected by 4D-CTA, the presence of irregular pulsation was independently associated with aneurysm symptomatic and ruptured status.

Epilepsy is a heterogenous neurological disorder characterized by recurrent unprovoked seizures, mitochondrial stress, and neurodegeneration. Hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S) is a gasotransmitter that promotes mitochondrial function and biogenesis, elicits neuromodulation and neuroprotection, and may acutely suppress seizures. A major gap in knowledge remains in understanding the role of mitochondrial dysfunction and progressive changes in H(2)S levels following acute seizures or during epileptogenesis....

Ganoderma resinaceum is a valuable Chinese medicine. This study aimed to investigate whether a G. resinaceum alcohol extract (GRAE) improves sleep, and analyze the potential mechanism. After 30 days of continuous administration of GRAE at various doses, GRAE (1,000 mg/kg.bw) prolonged pentobarbital sodium-induced sleep, increased the rate of sleeping in mice treated with a subthreshold dose of pentobarbital sodium, and shortened sleep latency. The mice brain was analyzed using UPLC-MS/MS and...

Background Activating variants in platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFRB), including a variant we have previously described (p.Tyr562Cys [g.149505130T>C [GRCh37/hg19]; c.1685A>G]), are associated with development of multiorgan pathology, including aneurysm formation. To investigate the association between the allele fraction genotype and histopathologic phenotype, we performed an expanded evaluation of post-mortem normal and aneurysmal tissue specimens from the previously published...

The use of field-specific apertures, routine in scattered or uniform-scanned proton fields, are still a necessity in pencil-beam scanned (PBS) fields to sharpen the penumbral edge at low energies and in high fraction dose application beyond that achievable with small spot size. We describe a model implemented in our clinical pencil-beam algorithm that models the insertion of a shaped aperture, including shapes adapted per energy layer such as may be achieved with a multi-leaf collimator. The...

Pineal anlage tumor is a rare pediatric tumor with clinical and histological features overlapping with pineoblastoma. Two patients with pineal anlage tumor, a 13-month-old female and an 11-month-old male, underwent subtotal resection, high-dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell rescue, and radiation. Neither had tumor progression 50 months after diagnosis. The tumors underwent next-generation sequencing on a panel of 340 genes. Chromosomal copy gains and losses were present and differed...

Although dormancy is thought to play a key role in the metastasis of breast tumor cells to the brain, our knowledge of the molecular mechanisms regulating disseminated tumor cell (DTC) dormancy in this organ is limited. Here using serial intravital imaging of dormant and metastatic triple-negative breast cancer lines, we identify escape from the single-cell or micrometastatic state as the rate-limiting step towards brain metastasis. We show that every DTC occupies a vascular niche, with...

CONCLUSIONS: In this pooled analysis of patients with HFrEF with standard indications for Sac/Val treatment, there was no significant overall increase in BNP concentrations, and patients demonstrated increase in ucGMP regardless of the trajectory of BNP change. Few translational studies have examined how age-at-injury affects the glial response to traumatic brain injury (TBI). We hypothesized that rats injured at post-natal day (PND) 17 would exhibit a greater glial response, that would persist into early adulthood, compared to rats injured at PND35. PND17 and PND35 rats (n = 75) received a mild to moderate midline fluid percussion injury or sham surgery. In three cortical regions [peri-injury, primary somatosensory barrel field (S1BF), perirhinal], we...
