Education

The Department of Neurological Surgery has a strong commitment to developing and supporting training in neurological surgery and the neurosciences at all levels. We offer an annual National Institutes of Health-supported Neurological Surgery Summer Student Program, providing “bench to bedside” exposure in the field of neurosciences, with a particular mission to recruit students under-represented in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Our medical student program includes both required and elective clerkships, as well as opportunities for research engagement. The University of Washington Neurological Surgery Residency Program provides residents with comprehensive clinical neurosurgery experience and mentoring in research to prepare residents to serve in the role of neurosurgeon-scientist. Finally, we offer advanced fellowship training opportunities in cerebrovascular and skull base surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, and spine surgery.
