Logan Muzyka, MD

Logan was born and raised in Texas. She received her B.S. in Neuroscience and English with a minor in Chemistry from Trinity University in 2021. She received her MD from Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin where she was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. During her 3rd year of medical school, she spent a dedicated research year at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she worked under the mentorship of Dr. Cahill studying radiation sensitivity in IDH-mutant gliomas.

Anthony Maxin, MD

Anthony Maxin, MD

Anthony was born and raised in Seattle. He attended the University of Washington where he graduated with a BS in Biochemistry. He attended medical school at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. Prior to and throughout medical school, he helped to develop a smartphone application-based pupillometer using computer vision, traditional machine learning, and transformer-based artificial intelligence to serve as a digital biomarker of neurological disease. This work was conducted in the lab of Dr. Michael Levitt at the University of Washington and under the mentorship of Dr. Lynn McGrath.

Meredith Costello, MD

Meredith Costello, MD

Meredith was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. She attended the University of Miami where she studied Biology and Chemistry. During her undergraduate education, she was also a member of the women's NCAA DI rowing team. After graduating Summa Cum Laude, she continued her education at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine as a part of the Medical Scholars Program. Her clinical interests include all aspects of cranial and spinal neurosurgery. She is excited to be joining the University of Washington for her neurosurgical training.

Malek Bashti, MD

Malek Bashti, MD

Malek Bashti was born and raised in the Bay Area, California. He completed his undergraduate studies at UC San Diego, as a member of the NCAA men's soccer team. Malek earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he conducted outcomes research in spine surgery under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Wang. In his spare time, Malek is an avid cyclist and enjoys cooking with friends and family. He is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Persian. 

Kevin Vanent, MD

Kevin Vanent, MD

Kevin was born in Renton, WA and raised throughout southern King County. He attended Brown University where he graduated magna cum laude with a BSc in Neuroscience. Prior to medical school, he studied how common genetic variants influence the risk and outcome of cerebrovascular disease as a research associate at the Yale School of Medicine.

Samantha Sadler, MD

Samantha Sadler, MD

Sam was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She then attended Duke University, graduating with a B.S. in neuroscience and global health (’19). Alongside Dr. Michael Haglund and the Duke Global Neurosurgery & Neurology research group, she worked on-site with local neurosurgery staff at Mulago National Referral Hospital (MNRH) in Uganda to tackle high infection rates. Sam then went on to obtain her MD at Harvard Medical School (’24), where she continued to pursue global neurosurgery. Under the mentorship of Dr.

Margot Kelly-Hedrick, MD

Margot Kelly-Hedrick, MD

Margot was born in Seattle, WA. She majored in Psychology at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She received a Master of Bioethics from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics. She completed her MD at Duke University in Durham, NC. During medical school, Margot also completed a fellowship in clinical ethics through Duke’s Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities, and History of Medicine. Her research includes topics in bioethics, medical education, and neurotrauma.

Keanu Chee, MD

Keanu Chee, MD

Keanu, a native Hawaiian born and raised in Kailua, Hawai’i on the island of O’ahu, received his B.S. in Kinesiology and minor in chemistry from Oregon State University in 2017 and matriculated to the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 2019. Keanu was selected for the University of Colorado School of Medicine Scholar’s Year fellowship where he conducted a full year of research under the mentorship of Dr. Todd Hankinson and Dr. Daniel Kramer. Fatima El-ghazali, MD

Fatima El-ghazali, MD

Fatima began her journey to neurological surgery with a degree in neuroscience at the University of Washington. She returned to UW for medical school and is sticking around for residency here in hopes of continuing to serve the community in which she grew up. Her scholarly interests involve the intersection of genotype and phenotype as it pertains to neurological diseases and improving patient outcomes. Outside the hospital, Fatima enjoys dedicating time to loved ones, mentorship, service, traveling and portraiture.

Nick Hug, MD

Nick Hug, MD

Nick was born in the California Bay Area but spent most of his early years in Geneva, Switzerland. He attended Northwestern University where he founded the first neuroscience student organization and helped establish the Neuroscience major. He was one of the first students to graduate from Northwestern with a B.A. in Neuroscience. He then attended Stanford University for medical school where he studied the neurobiological impact of opioids on breathing and performed clinical research on peripheral nerve disorders.
