The University of Washington Neurological Surgery Residency Program is designed to provide residents with a comprehensive exposure to clinical neurosurgery while preparing him/her to become an independent scientific investigator. A major part of our Department’s stated mission is to mentor the neurosurgeon-scientist. Our residency program is directed by Dr. Richard Ellenbogen, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Training Locations
The academic and clinical program is enhanced by the fact that the training occurs in four diverse locations. The four affiliated hospitals of the University of Washington form one of the largest health care systems in the United States, serving patients from Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (the WWAMI region):
These four hospitals are located in Seattle, Washington and play complementary roles providing specialized care for all people in the Pacific Northwest and the surrounding WWAMI region.
