Epilepsy patient donates part of his brain to science while he – and his healthy tissue – is still alive
Dr. Jeffrey Ojemann’s patient, Gary Williams, underwent microsurgery to remove the part of his brain responsible for debilitating seizures. Williams agreed to donate the small bit of healthy tissue that had to be removed during the operation for scientific analysis.
Dr. Mike Williams and his team’s report on the first 517 patients of the Adult Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network registry published in the May 24, 2019 online version of the Journal of Neurosurgery.
The first report of a large, multicenter cohort of patients with all categories of adult hydrocephalus who were enrolled prospectively and assessed using the same standard evaluations performed by trained examiners.
