Congratulations to Dr. Patel who was awarded an NIH R01 grant in the amount of $600,000 for his project “Defining Cellular States of Quiescence in Human Brain Tumors.” The three aims of Dr. Patel’s research are:
- To test the hypothesis that human neural progenitors adopt a transient G0 to help coordinate developmental potential with proliferation that is altered in G0-skip mutants and cancer stem-like cells
- To test the hypothesis that brain tumor stem-like cells can be induced into a G0-like state through genetic manipulation and use of small molecule inhibitors
- To test the hypothesis that glioblastoma cells adopt G0-like states in tumors
