Biography

Joshua M. Diamond, MD, is a fellow in functional neurosurgery and epilepsy at the University of Washington, training at UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center. He completed his neurosurgery residency through the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center / University of Virginia program, where he served as education chief resident and trained with Dr. Kareem Zaghloul at NINDS.

Dr. Diamond earned his MD from the University of Virginia and his BS in neuroscience, magna cum laude, from the University of Southern California. His research investigates the spatiotemporal dynamics of human focal epilepsy, using intracranial microelectrode and subdural recordings to characterize traveling waves of ictal and interictal activity and localize the seizure source — work that has produced first-author publications in Brain and Nature Communications. He has been recognized with the Mark E. Shaffrey Excellence in Research Award and the CNS Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery Resident Basic Science Award, and was selected as one of two clinical fellows to deliver the NIH Clinical Fellows graduation address in 2026.
