Cavernous malformations are abnormally formed blood vessels in the brain or spinal cord. Blood leaking from these malformations may cause significant hemorrhage or blood loss. Cavernous malformations may cause seizures when the malformation occurs in the cerebral cortex, or surface layer of the brain. They may enlarge over time due to repeated small hemorrhages.
Cavernous malformations in children are treated by our faculty providers at Seattle Children’s.
