Biography

Dr. Buchwald’s background in public health, epidemiology, and primary care considers health at the level of the individual, the community, and the healthcare system. She has worked with 150 partners, including tribes, urban Indian health programs, non-profit organizations, and health departments. Dr. Buchwald has procured 79 grants totaling more than $100 million from the National Institutes of Health and other sponsors and published more than 500 peer-reviewed articles. The achievement she is most proud of is mentoring more than 50 junior faculty primarily from groups underrepresented in health research, through her leadership in 7 different training programs. These rising stars have published ~500 papers, garnered ~$250 million in grants, achieved tenure (50%), and become leaders and mentors in their own right.
