Kevin A. Cross, MD

Dr. Kevin Cross is an assistant professor of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington. He received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and his medical doctorate from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He stayed in St. Louis for neurological surgery residency at Washington University School of Medicine / Barnes-Jewish Hospital. While there, he learned a wide variety of approaches to spinal disease, including minimally invasive techniques and management of complex deformities.

During his residency he received an NIH training grant and performed bench research in the field of neuroimmunology and cerebrospinal fluid physiology in the lab of Jonathan Kipnis, PhD. As part of a longstanding exchange, he also served five months as a neurosurgical registrar at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, the national neurosurgical referral center. He acted as chief resident in St. Louis from 2023 to 2024.

Dr. Cross continued in a two-year lab research and spinal oncology fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. His research efforts there focused on cancer stem cells. He then obtained unique advanced training in resection of rare primary bone tumors of the spine such as chordomas and sarcomas, multimodal management of metastatic cancer involving the spine, and resection of peripheral nerve tumors.
