Biography

Ananth Vellimana is a native of Trivandrum, India and received his medical degree at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He then worked as a post-doctoral research fellow, funded by the American Heart Association, in Dr. Gregory Zipfel’s laboratory at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis where they studied the pathophysiology of secondary brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage and developed innovative strategies to combat delayed cerebral ischemia.  Ananth stayed on at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and completed residency training in neurological surgery under the leadership of Dr. Ralph Dacey and Dr. Gregory Zipfel. During residency he completed an in-folded fellowship in diagnostic endovascular neuroradiology at WashU, and also obtained additional training as a neurosurgical registrar at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. He continues to actively engage in cerebrovascular research and plans to expand into neurotrauma.
